Located on 12 acres of
property in the heart of the Naugatuck Valley, where the eyelet industry was
born, Highland is contained in a 145,000 square foot one story modern
air-conditioned facility, fully integrated to serve its’ customer’s needs.
Highland contains complete engineering design facilities, a carbide die
department, two full staffed tool rooms with 120 pieces of equipment, ranging
from modern lathes to precision grinders. Complemented by Wire EDM, CNC Milling,
and Turning Centers, this facility stands ready to service our compliment of
over 170 production pieces of equipment ranging up to 60 ton capacity in the
progressive stamping area to 300 ton capacity in the deep drawn transfer press
area. Highland is capable of utilizing strip material from .003 gage to .120
gage in various materials such as aluminum, brass, cold rolled steels, (1008,
1070, 1018, etc.), stainless steels (304, 305, 310, 409, 410, etc.), and a
variety of copper alloys. Highland also has the capability of fabricating a part
to you print from a flat stamping to the depth of a six inch draw.
Tooling:
Precise parts require precise
skills, machinery and tooling. To support our people’s skills, Highland has
traveled the world to obtain the best toolmaking equipment-American, German,
Swiss, and Japanese. Our entire complex of CNC equipment--milling, turning and
wire EDM is electronically networked to our CAD-CAM system. Tooling and machine
parts can be replaced identically. Production equipment is never left waiting
for lack of a tool. With this equipment, Highland is able to develop proprietary
tooling techniques which lower cost and deliver process reliability to our
customers.
Training:
Our commitment to quality is
not just in our product. The Waterbury area has a proud lineage of having the
most highly trained eyelet workers in the world and at Highland that tradition
continues. We have a commitment to providing the support our employees need—whether
they are managers, office workers or production people.
Customer Service:
100% on time delivery is our
goal. We understand you need flexibility and a quick response from your
suppliers. We expect the same from our suppliers. We have great experience
working with blanket orders with weekly schedule changes. We accept releases,
provide shipment notification, invoice, and receive payment electronically. We
are prepared to work with any paperless system. All product is barcoded and
packaged to you specifications.
Production:
Our manufacturing systems
focus on simplicity, cost reduction and repeatability. All of our transfer
presses have been remanufactured to Highland standards. This means that tooling
and machine components from same sized machines are completely interchangeable.
You will not be told your tools fit in only one press. Machine capabilities
exceed all original manufacturers specifications. To protect equipment and your
tooling investment, we install our own micro processor based control system
which prevents tool damage and monitors numerous machine functions. We have over
60 die set based transfer presses which allow significant reductions in set up
time and allow tremendous machine scheduling flexibility. Highland builds all of
its own die sets which allows inclusion of many operations which would normally
be done as costly and imprecise secondaries. Current die sets have been built
with up to 20 operations. Highland also makes every effort to create complete
manufacturing cells which include all operations from raw material through
packaging. All non-value operations are eliminated.
Support Systems:
Highland’s innovative
machine building and repair program allows us to operate more efficiently and
cost-effectively. We have equipped many of our machines with high tech
electronics and peripherals, building in years of experience on the line.
Highland also maintains a
comprehensive preventative maintenance program, with computerized scheduling to
obtain performance and eliminate down time. When it comes to rebuilding, repair,
or prevention, Highland has all the tools necessary at its disposal in plant
from a complete array of welding equipment to the most sophisticated electronic
devices.
We also take a cost savings
approach to in-plant functions with a computerized program which calculates peak
use of energy. The system rotates the use of air conditioning units and turns on
air compressors in the morning. At highland, we’re always keeping an eye on
our bottom line because we know that the more cost effectively we can operate,
the more we can pass on savings to you.
